Tonal Study

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Getting back to painting was difficult today. Didn't know what to paint, so I did a tonal study from one of my photos. I also notice some of the blogs I follow was removed by mistake. I will bring them back during the week.

A Greeting Card

Experimenting with graphics. I did this little trading card in acrylic, then placed it on the bottom of an 8x11 sheet of copy paper, copied it and the folded it into a greeting card format.
I'm sure this is nothing new to so many of my artist friends, but it is all new to me.

On a cold Sunday morning, my husband and I went to a local market. I couldn't resist taking a photo of this lady buying her Sunday morning breakfast.

Simba is my sons Shilo Shepherd he weighs 125lbs. and is 30 inches tall. He is a gentle giant. As for this painting, the old saying "if you don't use it, you lose it". Well I have my work cut out for me next year. I will begin to do more pet portraits. Mainly dogs.

The Little Boat

I can't believe this little 5x7 could be so difficult to paint. Thank you Karen Phipps, her tonal study is something I forget when I focus too much on other elements. Just by adding more of the dark and light tones it helped. As for the boat, next time I will pay more attention to a better photo of boats.

Another Study

5x7 oil study. Still using the Zorn palette. It's really very interesting to see the various shades of color. There is still so much to learn from this study. Sorry to say that little boat looks more like a tub, but it actually looks that way. Mariano also recommends looking at Keiko Tanabe watercolor paintings, she's excellent.

Zorn's Palette 2

6x8 oil. Still working with Zorn's palette. I find it fascinating to experiment with different tones and colors using this limited palette. Thank you Mariano for introducing me to the works of this great master artist. He also used this palette for his watercolors as well.

I have created a watercolor blog, located on the left of this blog. I will attempt to work with the same palette in watercolor. That should be interesting, because I won't have the use of white.

Giant Cauliflower

I couldn't resist painting this cauliflower. My husband bought this at the market. It was really a giant. I have never scene a cauliflower so big. Unfortunately I couldn't relate the size on canvas. But all in all it was a fun subject to paint.

Country Road

4x6 oil study of a country road, once again using white, black, yellow ochre and sap green.

I just visited Karen P.'s blog, and she had a great tip. She's an excellent artist and I always learn something from her postings. Have a great day everyone.
