Testing the Water

8x10 oil on board

Sunday temps in the high 80's we took the little ones to Cory beach. While they were testing the water I was testing various shades of blue for the sky and water.

This is just a quick study, I am still in the process of trying to finish a completed painting.

Oil is my first love, but I have to say I am just as attracted to watercolor. Now it is watercolor pencils. Hence three blogs. How fortunate we artist are to have this wonderful gift of art, whatever medium we choose. Happy Painting everyone.

  1. Hi Joan.
You are getting to be an expert on depicting Water and the sky. And these figures are really good. Well done my friend. All the best Joan.

  2. Hi Joan!... "You" have absolutely nailed the water colour and movement in this one!

Doesn't seem to matter what medium "You" choose to work with... things are working out well for "You"!

Your figures are loose... well placed... painterly and give good scale to the waves coming ashore!

A Gem Joan! Keep 'em comin'...

Thank "You" for your kind comments on my site!

    Good painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  4. Hi Bruce,

I really appreciate your opinion. When it comes to placing figures in my paintings, I always worry about scale. Thank you Bruce.

  6. Beautiful painting - in a watercolor-esque way - love the shimmering quality. I can almost feel the sea breezes and hear the gentle surf.
    Wonderful!
