The Arboretum in Fall

This is my 5x7 acrylic on canvas board. I just completed this one. I started it yesterday. The one below is were I left off.

Sometimes it is best to leave things alone. I will give this one another try some other time.

Of course it doesn't matter what the outcome, it's the process that is important. There is always something learned from each day we paint.

Happy painting everyone and have a great weekend.

  1. Joan, it` a cracker my friend. I like them both. One with it`s mysteries over on the left and the completed one that solves the mysteries. Well done again Joan. All the best my friend.

  3. I really am glad you showed both versions. I liked seeing how you went back and added details. It isn't a big change, but I think it really made the painting more interesting. Really beautiful!

  4. Hi Joan!... Vic has nailed it really! The first version has the distinct feel of a lay in stage... searching... playing... building compositional and tonal value structures.

The second however... demonstrates the very calculated effort you have made to
"tune up" values... enhance colour... and add sufficient detail to draw the viewer in the process. I feel that you were immensely successful in achieving your goals.

"A little"... has said a lot in this little gem Joan! Great work!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  8. Dear Bruce,

That is exactly how the process was, using the acrylics was so challenging. I always appreciate your input, you have no idea how it helps.

    All the best to you.
