Longwood Estate

This is an 8x10 oil on canvas covered board. It was started on location and finished from my watercolor sketch and photo.

I am trying to break away from using my photos when I paint plein air. I love the work Bruce Sherman does either on location or in the studio. He often describes his process, which is wonderful.

I also find Vic Errington blog very inspiration, both are very fine artist

  1. Hi there Joan!... This work and all of your other earthy, muted work is inspirational to others as well!

All that keeps popping into my head while viewing this one is a wonderful line from my favourite poet, Robert Frost in his famous "The Road Not Taken":

"Two roads diverged at a yellow wood
And I took the one less travelled by,
And it has made all the difference."

So true for a lot of Joan?

"I" think that Frost would be immensely pleased by this work of yours Joan!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards Joan,

  2. Hi Joan,
    Your paintings are beautiful.
I love the colors and the wonderful atmosphere!
I'll be back to see more:)
    have a nice day,

  3. Hi Bruce,

What a wonderful compliment. I thank you. It comes at a time when my daughter and her family may be moving out of state. She is definitely taking The Road Not Taken.

My Road Not Taken, is to stay and continue with my husband on a road that we are familiar with, but not certain of the destiny.

All in all, I appreciate your visits and comments.

    God Bless

  4. Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for the visit and the lovely comment. I enjoyed your blog as well.

    all the best to you

  5. Hi Joan.
Sorry I`m a bit late in visiting. No real excuses though except the usual one, TIME. This is a lovely painting my friend. Each of your paintings seem better than the last one. That implies improvement eh? And you are producing good sound oil paintings. I love them. Now to look at your latest. Well done my friend and all the best.
