From Nurcy's Garden

During the hurricane, as you know there were 500,000 homes without power on Long Island. First and foremost I hope all that had to endure Irene are safe and well . We were without power for 7 days. Today I am changing my telephone, internet and tv service. I will have to navigate and make necessary changes with email and blog, and website.

During the storm my neighborhood rallied as it has always done for the 45yrs we have lived on this block. Most of my neighbors have moved or passed away, but there are a few of us that still remain. But all of us helped one another, either with food or in Nurcys case the produce from her garden. She came with a magnificent display of egg plant, peppers, cherry tomatoes , cucumbers and rosemary. Nurcy's gardening is what painting is to me, a labor of love. I did an 11x14 sketch, an 6x8, and a sketch of her house 8x10 in acrylic. Once I complete the paintings I will sign and spray the 11x14 and it is my gift to Nurcy. I don't know when I will be able to post again. In the meantime I wish everyone to be safe and well and happy painting to all.

  1. Hello the Friend Joan!... How much your post today means to me!

It is such a wonderful... warm and reassuring feeling to sense that there exist people who share: feelings... their art... their idea... their love... their presence and evn their food with their neighbours!

The world will need more people to encourage otheres with their daily... and unsolicited "acts of kindness"!

I laud "You" for youyrs Joan! And by the way... the paintings are marvellous in dsign and color! Your neighbour will have sustinence for many empty days!

Glad that you and your neighbours are safe!

    Good for you Joan!
    Happy Painting!

    Warmest regards,

  4. So glad you've got power again, Joan -- my sister didn't get lights back on until late Friday --- it's often wonderful how neighbors rally during troubling times -- these are magnificent ...!! And should please your neighbor!

  5. Hi Joan, lovely to see you back, and with three great paintings. You must have some wonderful neighbours Joan to rally round to help one and all. Nancy, Is it Nancy who brought the food to you? Well, she will be delighted to receive that lovely gift of a painting of her House, brilliantly painted. Well done my friend and glad to see you okay and back in business. All thest Joan.

  10. Dear Lin,

So happy you are okay. I thought for sure your area would be hit quite hard. Thank God it wasn't. Yes L.I. got hit and we got our power back on Friday, and tel, internet, tv on Saturday. I switched providers so my email address has changed. I updated my profile so that has my new email.

You take care and I will visit your blog as well.
