Stony Brook and Fire Island Light WIP

I started these sketches yesterday. Michael, I used the water & wash graphite in my Moleskine and love working with the w&w graphite pencils. I also started the 5x7 StonyBrook sketch in acrylic and the Fire Island Light needs lots of tweaking, it's a 4x6 acrylic on mdf, and I attempted to paint the structure on the easel, hence it is slightly tilted. I'll worry about it tomorrow. Nap time, happy painting everyone.

  1. Great sketches and paintings, Joan. I especially like the feel of the one in Stoneybrook. Good work! Hope we have a dry day to paint this week.

  2. Hi Joan. These are two beautiful paintings and I really enjoyed comparing them to your original w&w Moleskine sketches - thanks for the mention by the way :) I like the lighthouse best and the slight tilt isn't bad at all, in fact I didn't notice it until I reread your post! Stonybrook looks gorgeous and has a lovely New England feel to it - a part of the world I've just got to see. With scenery like this and a paintbox - what more could we ask for :)
