Torn Between Two Loves

Happy Tuesday morning to all of you. Today is a plein air painting day. Looking forward to meeting up with my friends. These are my watercolor sketches from the last few days. The beach scene is a wip. I love working in all mediums, my favorites are oil and watercolor. Hence the title two loves. Happy Painting.

Avalon Park Stonybrook

Finally the sun came out and I took advantage of the glorious day. My friends painted at Avalon Park three weeks ago. It's a great place to paint plein air. I chose this angle, however everything was so green including the water. So this was just my short hand notes for a future oil painting.

Rain Rain Go Away

While waiting for the sun to shine, it was necessary to resort to partially paint from a photo and sketch of Stonybrook. Today was to be a plein air painting day at Smiths Point , I opted not to go. There is so much to learn from studio painting, that can be applied to plein air. In studying Robert Brindley, I did this on textured mdf board, using just the primary colors red, yellow and blue. It just felt so good to be back painting in oils. Happy painting everyone.

Pen & Ink

Once again time is limited so I have done some pen and ink sketches. I love my Rotring Artpen. I did these sketches while waiting for my grandson's school bus.

The floral was done the next day.

May Flowers

My Son and his family are returning home today. This is the first day I actually had time to do some painting. These are two watercolor sketches and one graphite. The tree is surrounded by beautiful azaleas not fully in bloom. Depending on the weather tomorrow , I will go out to paint this magnificent array of beautiful colors. The little tulip study is a gift from my son and his family on mothers day. Happy painting everyone.

Virginia and Gabriella

Mariano, is an artist who is not afraid to go out on a limb. He is a very gifted artist. Determined to do portraits and to be proud of each one that he does is
a gift in of itself. He is eager to master the art of portraiture and does not sabotage his early attempts with harsh self criticism.

Inspired by him I have done these two sketches of my grand daughters.

Back to Stonybrook

11x14 oil on canvas. Just did this one this morning. Using the texture paste to prepare the canvas , then toning it with a wash of ultra marine and cad. red. Thanks to Robert Brindley. This does need more work, I will give it a day or two. Eventually I will go back to my own way of painting, it's just so much fun experimenting with these different methods. I never heard of texture paste. Robert Brindley was kind enough to answer my email inquiry. I hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful day. Especially knowing that that horrible man was finally taken out, maybe we can live in a world free of terrorism. With the help of brave men and women and of course God.

Mamma Mia Here I Go Again

A week of life's little surprises and not really being able to paint I started studying a new technique. Just a study in color possibilities not composition or even accurate drawing of subject matter. That's what I find so intriguing about art, little bits and pieces in the learning process.

Watercolor is a wonderful medium to study., while preparing my panels for future oil paintings. Hopefully this week won't be so hectic.
Do hope everyone in enjoying life and spring weather.
