Having a Heat Wave on L.I.

Musicians at the Garden Tour  plein air
The color purple
Well, okay the top oil sketch is 11x14 painted on location, or I should say partially and worked on it at home.  I did take plenty of photos and the home owner said I could go back and paint whenever I wanted.  It was a lovely experience to take part in plein air event.  My main focus was to capture the musicians on the porch.  While we painted they played lovely enchanting music, simply wonderful.

The second was another oil sketch, and 8x10, just had to go abstract with this one, there was so much to paint that day, everywhere I looked was a painting to be painted.  Yes Bruce, thank you for your latest post, the house in this sketch looks like it wouldn't survive a slight wind. so it's back to the drawing board to do a better study of the structure and also the composition, noticed there is no lead into the painting.  I'm learning, thanks to you with your post, more studies to do. Gotta say, it's a wonderful journey.

Happy painting everyone.

Stay cool.
All the best to you,
Joan

    Gros bisous.

  2. Hello there..."Hot stuff!"... HA HA!! Stay in the shade Friend!

The "Musicians" piece is grand Joan! Leave it be! You've caught that festive feeling of joy with your warm palette and the deeper of space created by your well drawn porch and receding ceiling.

The colourful foreground flower bed pushes the figures and porch to the rear just enough t invite one to enter!!

    Well done!... Both!
    Stay cool!
    Coolest regards... HA HA!

  3. You can tell its summer here in Yorkshire: the rain's getting warmer :0) Here the 21st of June is the longest 'day' of the year (light from 3-45 in the morning to 10-45 at night).

Love the musicians - great feel to it. You seem to have had such a wonderful fun day ... and that's nice.

  8. Hola Joan, los colores que utilizas, como consigues que armonicen es fantástico. Son preciosos los dos bocetos y el segundo por su soltura me parece encantador.

    Un abrazo
