Let It Be!!

8x10 gouach on mixed media board
This is one of those forced paintings, that we artist find it necessary to do.  To break out of a slump or to fight off the blues with a paint brush.  What frightens me, is the loss that is felt when the enthusiasm we feel towards our craft suddenly disappears or gets misplaced somewhere in our subconscious.

So today was one of determination to simply not think, or wait for inspiration, or ponder why, it was Just Do It!!!  Doesn't have to be good, or bad, just Let It Be.

So here it is my road to recovering my artist spirit.
Happy Painting Everyone..

  1. Joan, the way you feel is to be expected, and your love of art and wanting to do it will come back.
Not easy to deal with, Just know that I understand and many others do too. Some people throw themselves into their work , I have always been just the opposite,.
Your passion for art will come back.. one day you'll just miss it and know that it's something you have to do...
    your friend , BJ

    1. Hi BJ,

I thank you so much for the supportive words. You are so right, it does come back, it feels good to have a brush in my hand again. BJ, just love your Christmas Cards, they are beautiful.

      All the best to you,

  2. Good evening Joan!... The process of making art is never predictable. Life has a way of often... "getting in the way." The quickest and most certain way to get out of the clutches of self doubt... is to paint!

Every other person engaged in any other performance-oriented activity... "hits the wall." and feels self-doubt. Race drivers literally "hit the wall... and must climb back into the cockpit... if theye are ever to regain their nerve... and their level of earlier success and performance.

Shake it off and paint Joan! You can get rusty... but you never really ever forget how to ride the bike. Just climb back on and pedal your (---) seat off! HA HA!!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,

    1. Hi Bruce,

As usual you have splashed water on my face, to bring me back to the reality of life and painting. So here I am pedaling my (....) seat off, Thank You, I really needed that.

All the best to you dear friend.

  3. First of all, this is so beautifully painted! You're on your way, Joan!...I think we all feel the way you feel at some point. Don't forget, you just lost Mac and he was always with you when you paint, so of course, you're in a slump.! I think Bruce said it all..and you already started with this amazing painting...Hugs from your friend, hilda!!!

    1. Dear Hilda,

Thank you so very much. You, BJ, and Bruce are truly friends. I feel so comforted by your words, of support and encouragement.

      Hugs back to you Hilda,
      Have a great day,

  4. Hi Joan my friend.
