Fire Island plein air sketches

Fire Island sketch
Fire Island Plein air sketch
Today we met at Fire Island to paint.  Didn't feel like working in oils or acrylics.  Decided on watercolor in my journal.  It's a whole new challenge working and scribbling quickly just to capture the essence of the scene before me.

Mike enjoyed himself basking in the sun and reading his Italian cook book and it just turned out to be a wonderful day.  So now there are so many possibilities to work out as far as composition and the whether to paint in oils or acrylics.  How fortunate are we artist to have such a  wonderful passion for this thing called art.

Happy painting everyone.

Stony Brook Park

Stony Brook Park
arboretum walk

Away from the water and now it's the color green.  My friend Vic, shared his palette with me, I am working on another  Arboretum path.  Using Vic's palette.  Painting is so challenging , it aint easy, that is why I love it so much.  Anything that comes easy is just boring.  This week it's back to the Fire Island Lighthouse, I also want to add people in my paintings.
My friend Nurcy just bought over some beautiful pink roses from her garden, maybe tomorrow that will be my next project.   In the meantime happy painting everyone.

Fire Island Lighthouse plein air

Fire Island Lighthouse
Here it is Vic, my friend.  This one had to be completed that day, and was entered to be shown at the light keepers house.  I wanted to fix the light house, then thought it was just an impression of the day.  An 11x14 acrylic.  I did take photos and probably will work on another or maybe not.  However I do want to go back to Fire Island, there are so many areas just waiting to be painted.  Happy Painting everyone.

Fire Island Lighthouse plein air

Fire Island Lighthouse plein air
Bayard Cutting Arboretum plein air

On Saturday our group ventured out to the Fire Island Lighthouse to paint.  I managed to do two.  One 11x14 and 6x8 acrylic on canvas panel.  It was a beautiful day and the people were so very kind with their  comments.  We were invited to hang our work in the light keepers house, for 2 weeks.

The second painting was done on location another 11x14, Mike and I managed to get out last week, the weather was glorious.  It was my first plein air attempt this year.  Happy Painting everyone.

Back to work

Stony Brook 11x14 acrylic
Stony Brook 6x8 acrylic
It's almost a week since my daughter and her family went back home.  I am determined to continue with my studies and try to paint every day.  The outcome does not matter as long as there is a brush in my hand and a willingness to avoid the self pity that lurks, I will be okay.

I am also trying something different with my acrylic paints, instead of water I am using acrylic mediums.  Happy painting everyone.

Stony Brook Plein Air

Stony Brook 4x6  acrylic on panel
6x8 acrylic sketch on canvas panel
Today was a rainy gloomy day.  Mike and I missing the kids decided to go to Stony Brook.  Once again he sat and read a history book, while I set up my little studio in the car.  I had my Tom Brown homemade pochade box sitting on my lap with the gooey stuff I love so much , my acrylic paints using a limited palette.

I did these little quick sketches, there was a man in the boat , there is a vague image in the first sketch.  I took loads of pictures and will get up early tomorrow to do a larger painting.  Happy painting everyone.

Baby sitting

Baby Sitting
Almost finished
Seatuk Potting Shed
My little ones returned home on Sunday.  Had to post my dog Mac, a shiloh shepherd enjoying my grandson.  He is a gentle giant and has always been great with the grand children.

It was difficult getting back to my art on Monday, but  I continued to work on the Penney boatbuilder painting.  Had a heck of a time applying the paint to the panel.  I used one of those panel boards and didn't gesso and prep the board.  The second painting was worked from a photo I had taken at  Seatuk.  It still needs a bit more tweaking.

Happy painting to all.
