Portrait Studies

Wet Canvas portrait study graphite
Wet Canvas  portrait study in graphite
I began studying portraits.  Just taking a break from landscape for a few days.  Learned about Wet Canvas through my some of my fellow artist.  It's  great using there reference library as a learning tool.  Actual life drawing workshops begins the end of March.  Looking forward to that, so in the meantime practicing at home will help.
Happy Painting everyone.

  1. Nice portrait sketches. You should come join the WetPaints portrait group on Tues evenings (2nd & 4th of the month) or the SBAA Portrait Group on Tuesday mornings at the Community Center in Bellport (10am). I've been going as often as possible, but will miss the SBAA one next week.

  2. Thank you Joan, I will keep that in mind. Also the last 2 Thursdays at Brookwood Hall. Life drawing workshops, quick poses and then in the afternoon long portrait poses. Megan is a great model. It's good hearing from you.

  3. Hi Joan!... Nice loosely rendered and sensitive pencil studies - a good beginning for your new journey into portrait work! Good luck with it!

    Good Portraiting... and Painting!
    Warm regards,
    Bruce

    1. Thank you Bruce for your continued support and encouragement. I'm looking forward to doing more of these studies in between my landscape and still life work.

All the very best to you and Deb

  4. This portrait sketch is outstanding, Joan and I really hope to see more ....I love both but the first one has so many wonderful details. I've never worked with graphite pencils... maybe I'll give it a try someday! Take care, my friend... Hopefully Spring will arrive soon! I just got back from outside putting some hot water by the pump in the pond... It's frozen over and the pump wasn't working.. I don't want anything to happen to the koi's.....they need the "air" to keep them alive...

    1. Hello my friend Hilda, thank you so very much for the encouragement. You know I am such a big fan of your portrait, so I am truly honored you like my graphite studies. I will continue to do more and oh yes, I would love to see some of yours as well. I learn so much from you and I love Wet Canvas. Thanks to you and BJ and Joan T. I have become aware of the site, it's a little confusing at first, but it is a good way to spend a cold winters day.

      Stay warm my friend,
      Joan

    1. My dearest friend Vic, my inspiration and my mentor. I thank you kind sir, for the encouragement. My doctor visit turned out to be okay, my little Monet's bite isn't infected and we know he doesn't have rabies, so we are all okay.
      Take care and stay well.

All the very best to you and Rosemary,
      Joan
