Watercolor studies

Grounded
Sweet Briar Farm
I have been working with watercolors this past week.  They are wonderful and challenging.  The first was painted on 300lb. arches , the second 140lb. arches rough.  My mistake was using masking fluid, never had much luck with that stuff.  So, it will be a do over for the first or I might just do an oil or an acrylic. I do love the composition on both of them.  Oh, well, Happy Painting everyone.

  1. I know I've said it before but you are equally talented in both mediums.
I have always liked a white subject popping out from a darker background. This fits perfectly .
Hope the weather is getting better up there... hugs,

  2. Hi BJ,
Thank you for your encouragement, watercolor is so difficult. I am always trying and learning. You make it look easy, so I truly appreciate your comment. The spring is on its way, tomorrow we reach 45. Yippy!

    All the best to you,
    Joan

  4. Hi my friend.
Joan, these two paintings are fantastic. The top one is my favourite, only just though. I`m dying to go out painting Joan. Weather isn`t too good. All the best Joan.

    1. My dear friend Vic, thank you so very much, I also like the top one and I messed it up using the masking fluid incorrectly. Just ordered the Daler Rownery masking flued suggested by Robert Brindley. Check out his blog that I posted on my sidebar. I know what you mean about the weather, we are finally getting warmer temps, compared to last weeks frigid weather. Hope we can go out soon. Hang in there may friend.

      All the best to you,
      Joan

  5. Two beautiful paintings, Joan! LOVE, LOVE the first watercolor... I find it impossible to work with water so I gently put the paints away forever! lol

    1. Another dear friend, Hilda, between you and Vic, you are making my day. I love the top one also, but really had my doubts after messing up with the masking fluid. Waiting to redo the house and put in the windows. Keep your fingers crossed. Hope all is well with you and your family.

      Joan.

  6. Hi Joan!... Two nice loose water colours! Great to see... and to use earth tones instead of titanium white by the buckets! HA HA!

    Good Painting!
    Warm regards,
    Bruce

    1. Good morning Bruce, it's true when working in watercolor, not need for the buckets of titanium white, but it is all so challenging.
Thank you for your continued support.

All the best to you and your beautiful family.,
      Joan
