Impressionism

Rolling Hills of Virgini
8x10 oil on canvas mounted on
foamcore board
Watercolor on treated watercolor paper
with gesso

Now that the year is coming to an end, and  looking back so that
I can go forward, there are some choices to be made.
Which on line website would be the best to show my work, what art organizations should
I join., and galleries, there are so many possibilities.

As for these two paintings, the Rollings Hills was done this past August and the second was done 2 years ago, which
won an award.  It's only a 5x7 watercolor, but because of the treated surface it was  very time
consuming  layering the paint, mistakes were easily erased.

I do love impressionism and have been a fan of the 19th Century Impressionist, but due to blogging
some of my fellow bloggers have introduced me to the English artist of today.  David Curtis, Brian Ryder
and Robert Brindley.

So it is fair to say my art education has been from the wonderful artist from the past and living,  We are very
fortunate to live in a time where we have access to the internet the vast world of wonderful
artist.  Happy Painting Everyone.

Order through Chaos

I love doing gesture drawing and quick watercolor paintings.  Thanks to
a very talented artist Nora Mac Phail who has shared her technique on her blog. I have always
admired Nora's lovely paintings.  In no way is my meager attempt to be a copy or imitation of
Nora's work, that would be impossible, but it was truly a fun exercise.
Thank you Nora for sharing. Happy Painting

Happy Thanksgiving

Millers Pond

Wishing all of my fellow bloggers a very Happy Thanksgiving.  Christmas Carols playing while the icy rain
pounds the windows, makes me aware of so many things to be thankful for, the simple things in life.

First and foremost Family, Mike and I are truly blessed to have our wonderful children and grandchildren.
Health, yes, something that is taken for granted, until we feel that first twinge or ache, so yes, thankful for
our health to be able to do whatever it is, even the most mundane task.
Happiness, to be a free spirit and enjoy the simple things in life, without anxiety or stress, self-imposed or
otherwise.
And last but not lease our faith in God, for without faith to get us through the rough times then we have nothing
to keeps us fortified until the brighter moment return.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY PAINTING.

Spreading My Wings

cardinal study in gouache on paper
copper pot and zinnia study in gouache
on Strathmore tinted paper

I never paint birds, maybe once a long time ago.  While going through the reference photos
on Wet Canvas, thought it would be a good time to start spreading my own wings and start
painting various subjects.  I always loved cardinals, not that I would go near one, ashamed to admit, one of
my phobias, fear of birds.  Silly isn't it, maybe if I paint birds it will help to conquer this silly phobia.
Happy Painting everyone.

Change Is Good

The Grange Park in Sayville
Experimenting with Bockingfor watercolor paper
Sitting in Barns and Nobel  book store cafe, sketching people in pen and ink
Another sketch of The Grange Park sitting in the car

Had a fun filled weak playing with Bockingford paper and watercolor with pen and ink. Sometimes
it's good to change and try different mediums and techniques.  It keeps me excited about my art.
Now I look forward to getting back to my oils and acrylics.

In the meantime I hope everyone is enjoying this time of the year. Happy Painting everyone.

Pen and Ink

Pen and Ink
a study

Sometimes it is just fun to doodle with a pen.  In this case I
used my Rotring ArtPen. and a waterbrush. It is so relaxing and the
pen and ink flows nicely creating its lovely tones.
Happy Painting everyone.

Plein Air Today

 The Arboretum Today
plein air  6x8 oil on canvas panel

We are so fortunate, Mother Nature smiled on us , it was a magnificent
fall day today.  I chose this building, a garage.  I didn't capture all of
the beauty of the architecture, maybe next time.
I didn't really want it to be just about the building, because it is located
along the river walk.  So overwhelming when painting outdoors.
But it is the best way to spend a lovely fall morning.

For A Change

Brookwood Hall Fall colors

Did this watercolor study yesterday.  Need to switch medium for awhile.
The fall is a beautiful time of the year, thought this would be good practice
before we go out tomorrow.  These colors won't last long.
Happy Painting Everyone.
