Plein air Paint Out Fire Island

Plein air sketch  at the Fire Island Lighthouse paint out  painted at the The Bayside
Approaching  Storm

On Friday the 13th, which I always feel is a lucky day, The Wet Paints Studio Group, we painted at the
Fire Island Light House.   My choice was to paint something not too difficult, because there was rain scheduled.
So I chose to do the Bayside and managed to complete it in one hour.  When done with our work we are allowed to show in the Light House for 1 month.  So that being said, it was all very exciting.

Once home I began doing some studio studies.  The Approaching Storm is a 6x8 oil on gessoed board.  Not a big fan of working on gessoed  board a little too slick even after a prepped it with texture paste and gesso.  So that is about it folks.  Hope everyone is enjoying this strange weather , not very spring like.   Happy painting everyone.

  1. Both of these are really nice. You could have painted the second one on location if you waited long enough. LOL Sorry I missed doing the paint out this year.

    1. Thank you Joanie, was wondering why I didn't see you at the lighthouse that day. Hope all is well with you. Still want to go back and paint when the weather gets warmer. Take care.

    ❀ Gros bisous ❀

  3. Both paintings are very nice and the frames set them off so well. Nice to hear you are able to exhibit the paintings in the lighthouse. It is raining here in Scotland too!

  4. I always love the way you capture an emotional feel to your work, Joan.
I particularly like Approaching Storm. Dramatic.
It is neat to think it will hang in the lighthouse too.
