Another attempt at fracturing

Fracturing day 1 wip

It would be wonderful if I lived close to Julie Ford Oliver, so that a workshop would be an
option,  I am attempting this technique, with the aid of Julies video.  Loving the way
the strokes are broken,, I will continue this tomorrow.  Thanks Julie for sharing your
lovely technique.

Draw, Draw, Draw

So here it is January coming to an end, with a blizzard headed for Long Island.  This past week my days are spent with Mike and I going out to various stores, just to walk and get some exercise.  Of course, my problem with that is that I like to make purchases, not just browse.

Very rarely do I make purchases at our local arts and crafts stores, but had this brain storm, why not buy artificial fruit, hence the pears, a wip.  Setting them up on a table with a light, trying to see various tones.  Still a problem for me.

Next , it was the desire to add variety , so first it was the free photos on the internet of farm animal, because there isn't a cow in site for miles from my home.  One of my favorite themes , farm animals and country kitchen items.

Next, a white bottle purchased from Michael's arts and craft store.  Thought of Andrew Wyeth and his wonderful drawings and paintings of the very subjects I am motivated to study .  I also purchased some cows , rabbits, and mini barn yard animals from Toy'srus.   So now it time to start my day and get crackin, like my good friend Vic would say.  I do hope everyone that is in the path of the up and coming blizzard will be safe.  Happy Painting everyone.

Barnes and Nobel Sketches

Gentleman sitting in front of me reading

The Mystery Lady,
She was wearing a very fancy dress and winter jacket.
Yesterday my friend Gina and I met at Barnes and Nobel book store.  We found a comfortable spot
to sketch the people reading.  A great way to practice life drawing.  I used my Rotring ArtPen and a water brush to do simple gesture sketches.  When I feel more confident I will attempt more solid drawings.  It's all about Practice, Practice, and Practice.  Did I mention it was also great fun.  We left just as the snow started.  Another delightful treat, our first snow of the year.  Happy Painting everyone.

Just a Study

Made major changes in this still life and still needs tons of work. I will put another day into this one and then call it quits.  I will bring in the cast shadows and various tones that are needed.  Talk about doing things backwoods.  Well the next time I will plan better.

I finally bought a light for my art room, so that when I set up a still life and create shadows using the light.  I didn't start this painting using the light, hence the lack of tones.  Lesson learned, don't mind making mistakes if it is for the greater good (impovement in my art).  That being said, wishing all my fellow blogger and very enjoyable weekend.  Happy Painting everyone.

Sunken Meadow Beach

Yesterday I got to use my new easel,  It is the Strada Micro
love it, and sturdy.
Sunken Meadow Beach
oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

Yesterday, my friends and I took advantage of the temp's in the 40's
it was a perfect day to paint outdoors before the temps drop below
freezing.  I got to use my new easel which I absolutely love, perfect for
painting plein air 5x7, 6x8, or 8x10 canvases.
Happy Painting everyone.

Short Beach #2

Today I did another Short Beach painting.  This time from my photo taken yesterday.  I used
Quality oil paints on a 5x7 canvas.  What we see in life and then try to capture the essence
On canvas is so very difficult.  Yesterday it was so magnificent to see the light glimmering on the frozen snow.  Color, tone, texture, atmosphere and trying to capture all of these elements is so challenging to say the least.  Well we will have many cold days ahead for me to get another chance to achieve this, and having a wonderful time playing with this gooey stuff called paint.  Happy painting everyone.

It is What it Is:

Today  I continued this composition, made multiple changes, but you loose some and you win some.
Unfortunately, this was one of the loses, but it was well worth the learning experience.  Tomorrow will be another adventure in the wonderful world of painting.  Happy painting everyone.

Still life

I started this one today, it is not finished.  I am using the canvas that was on sale at Michaels.  I am also using ws oils.  The problem, not sure if it is the student grade canvas or the ws oils or just me. I will let the paint set and work on it again tomorrow.
Happy Painting everyone.
