Back in the Studio

6x13 oil study on panel

I am beginning to realize that to be an artist is like being a juggler.  There are so many aspects to art work.  The
problem is , I love it all.  Oils, w/c/ pen and ink etc.   I will never be that good and it is okay, every time I pick up a brush or pencil it is exciting for it is a challenge.  Never bored.  Happy Painting everyone.

Panel Board and masonite.

Working on background

Just playing with various techniques for the background of the apple pickers.  This also another panel board.  I tried to share the Roger Bansemer video on panel board as a substrate of oil and acrylic paintings.  Still very confused.  I have used archival canvas panel and gessoboard purchased from Blick Art supplies.   In the end, after more research I will probably used raymar panels which I have used as well.  In the meantime it is still bothering me, that so many professional artist use masonite, mdf and panel board.  Yet I do respect the professional artist such as Jim Serrett who do not like using this type of surface.

To Use Mdf board or not?

Oil on mdf just a study

I recently purchased white panel board, with is basically painted mdf board.  It is wonderful to paint on after the surface is slightly sanded and gesso is appliced.  I was told that it isn't wise to paint on mdf board it lacks archival or it simply won't stand the test of time.  I did some research on my own only to find that there are so many artist who Paints on mdf, professional artist, such as Roger Bansemer, Peter Brown, a large number of British artist that I follow.
So this can be a bit confusing.  The truth be told, in my case, I don't believe that I need to concern myself with that issue.  But it was interesting to hear this from an artist who has worked in a museum and has seen fine pieces of art crumble.

Practice, practice,practice!

Challenging myself

My friend Joan is doing a one week challenge of 100 people sketches in a week.  I don't have the time to commit officially but thought it would be fun to add sketching people when I had extra time.
I also included some horse and jockey drawings, I gave in and started to get free photos from the internet, maybe someday I
will  get a chance to study horses from life.  Happy painting everyone.

Lemons and a tea pot

Gesture Lines and watercolor study
Lemons and Tea Pot

The weather on Long Island is damp and dreary, rain but warm temps.  Well, thought it would be
a good idea to stay in and do some doodle sketches in my watercolor journal.

Having fun with this technique now I will attempt an oil.  Happy Painting everyone.
