|Working on background|
Just playing with various techniques for the background of the apple pickers. This also another panel board. I tried to share the Roger Bansemer video on panel board as a substrate of oil and acrylic paintings. Still very confused. I have used archival canvas panel and gessoboard purchased from Blick Art supplies. In the end, after more research I will probably used raymar panels which I have used as well. In the meantime it is still bothering me, that so many professional artist use masonite, mdf and panel board. Yet I do respect the professional artist such as Jim Serrett who do not like using this type of surface.
|Oil on mdf just a study|
I recently purchased white panel board, with is basically painted mdf board. It is wonderful to paint on after the surface is slightly sanded and gesso is appliced. I was told that it isn't wise to paint on mdf board it lacks archival or it simply won't stand the test of time. I did some research on my own only to find that there are so many artist who Paints on mdf, professional artist, such as Roger Bansemer, Peter Brown, a large number of British artist that I follow.
So this can be a bit confusing. The truth be told, in my case, I don't believe that I need to concern myself with that issue. But it was interesting to hear this from an artist who has worked in a museum and has seen fine pieces of art crumble.
My friend Joan is doing a one week challenge of 100 people sketches in a week. I don't have the time to commit officially but thought it would be fun to add sketching people when I had extra time.
I also included some horse and jockey drawings, I gave in and started to get free photos from the internet, maybe someday I
will get a chance to study horses from life. Happy painting everyone.

8x16 oil on Raymar panel
I have been studying gesture and color, impressionism. Love the affect of broken lines and just an impression of what I have set up. Still so much to learn, but loving the journey. Happy Painting everyone.

Lemons and Tea Pot
The weather on Long Island is damp and dreary, rain but warm temps. Well, thought it would be
a good idea to stay in and do some doodle sketches in my watercolor journal.
Having fun with this technique now I will attempt an oil. Happy Painting everyone.
