Thank you fellow bloggers

I want to just say thank you to all of you, for your prayers.  Mike, and I and my family are all safe.  We live in the center of the Island.  We experienced winds reaching 90mph.  No floods, no damage and the only discomfort was, the lack of power.

We were safe, we listened to the radio, like in the old days prior to tv, or the internet.  We burned candles and  kerosene lanterns.  We sat at the kitchen table in the evening and watch the sky and full moon.  We saw lights in sky at times, I thought it was lightening but it was transformers arching.  Which we knew it would mean no power for awhile.  But like I said we were lucky, power came back in 24hrs.

Mike and I shared time together, at one point he even said I looked young again, which in fact I thought the same about him.  But as the evening progressed we found ourselves fast asleep by 8pm.  But of course I was up at 5am the next morning.

I still worry about Hilda, I do hope they are safe.

Once again fellow bloggers I thank you all.

Stay Safe Fellow Bloggers

Last Week Short Beach
What a difference a week makes.  Last week Mike and I enjoyed this little inlet at short Beach.  We are now in the midst of a fast approaching storm.  We are all ready feeling the effects, winds reaching 50mph at times and light rain.  The big event comes later today a 5pm into the God only knows when, we are expecting winds up to 90mph.  This will be my last post for awhile.  We will be without electricity for a week or more, that is what we are told.

So once again, we are waiting for another hurricane, this time it' Sandy, it's back to painting by candlelight , and day light.  Another trip back in time, no computers, phone or television.  For all who isn't affected by the storm, Happy Painting.

Smithtown Historical Society Barn

Painting the Barn
Yesterday painting at the Smithtown Historical Society Park
Not a very good picture of the painting, it was still wet and couldn't get rid of the glare, the colors a little off also.  Maybe once it dries it will look a little better.  It was started on location and completed today at home.

It's 8x10 oil on an old piece of Luan board.  So basically it's just a study.  We are expecting a huge storm, that will encompass the Southeast all the way up to the Northeast states including Maine.  Oh, my, never have seen a storm this large.  Expected to start tomorrow evening.  So to all my fellow bloggers, stay safe.

Short Beach

Short Beach
Another brilliant day at Short Beach.  Mike and I ventured out yesterday.  I set up and he sat by the water reading a history book.

We met some lovely people who came to the beach with the dogs, one a Golden Retriever, doing his job, by retrieving the ball his master through into the water.  The next car pulled up, with a man and woman, with a long leash in hand, and then the pet a huge Great Dane, what a magnificent animal.  Charcoal Grey, just a young lad of 2, but the size of a pony.

Happy Painting everyone.

Conklin House and Hilda

Fall Pickin's
Kevin MacPherson Pochade
Lots going on this weekend.  First and foremost, getting to see my blogger friend Hilda.  Last week I mentioned to Hilda, that the Conklin house was having a opening night reception.  She was to baby sit on Friday, so I really didn't expect to see her.  Upon arriving and looking at the lovely paintings I looked up there she was, with her lovely smiling face.  What a wonderful surprise, when we all communicate through our blogs, we get to know each other, when we meet in person, it's like two old friends meeting.

Hilda is as beautiful as her paintings, and it is a privilege to know her. Thank you Hilda for taking the time in your busy schedule to travel to the show. Check out her blog, you have a treat to behold, she is a gifted artist. Pastels by H. Muxo

Sorry about this long post, but in the photos you will see my latest painting a wip, still needs tweaking, but it's my Kevin MacPherson pochade that I was thrilled to use on Saturday.  So all of that being said, I wish you all a lovely Sunday.  Happy Painting everyone.

Back to the Organic farm and the Pumpkin patch

Pumpkin farm and scare crow
Marlene and me painting at the pumpkin farm
My set up at today's location
Today was a glorious day to be out painting.  My friend and I met at last weeks location. The weather was perfect.  Warm in the sun, but temps in the 60's.

Mike and I had to drive to the Conklin House to drop off two of my paintings for the show this weekend.  Hilda the reception is this Friday at 7pm, if you can make it, it would be great seeing you again.

Tomorrow I will work on my painting at home, it still needs some tweaking.  Happy painting everyone.

Last Roses of Summer

Last Roses of Summer
I realized that plein air, doesn't necessarily mean outdoor painting.  It means from life or nature.  So that being said, these are the  roses from my garden.  Doubt if  there will be anymore for this year.  It is always fun painting from life.  Happy Painting everyone.

An Apple A Day

An Apple A Day
Experimenting with a technique I have never tried before, inspired by Cindy Hasse a gifted artist.

Cindy works in oil and pastel.  I tried this technique using gouache on a 6x6 Raymar panel.  Only using the primary colors and not white.  It's incredibly challenging.  But today is a beautiful sunny day.  So I am on my way out.  Tally Ho my fellow bloggers.  Happy Painting.

Meadow Croft

Meadow Croft

I have been working in gouache the last few days. It was to cold to go out and paint , so  I did this 5x7  on card stock.   I have so many incomplete paintings that need my attention.  I just want to go out and paint all the time.  But plein air doesn't necessarily mean painting outdoors, it can also be a still a still life set up.

Why is it more exciting to work from life, there was a time that a photo would satisfy as a reference for a painting, as it still does, but my heart is out there working from nature.

Now it is time to make the pizza, I make my own from scratch.  It just me and Mike now, so instead of 6 pies, it's only two.
Happy painting everyone.

The Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch 5x7 gouache on crescent board
This is the little 5x7 painting I did yesterday.  Still have the oil sitting on my easel to be completed.
Today Mike and I went back to this lovely place and I spoke with the owner Mike and asked if my painting pals can join me next week.  He is very kind and agreed it would be okay.  I gave him a print of this signed and framed and he hung it inside the little shack where he sells home mad pies and jams and fresh produce.  It is a jewel of a place and I look forward to returning next week.
