Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Merry Christmas

May all my fellow bloggers enjoy a most happy, healthy , Holiday  Season.
Another year coming to an end.   A new one is about to begin.

Today is Christmas Eve and Mike is in the kitchen preparing for the Eve
celebration of the traditional family fish dinner.

The weather on Long Island is rainy and warm, that's what I love about
the Island, you never know what kind of weather to expect.
If it stays warm after Christmas, I am going out to paint plein air.

This is the time to enjoy our families and loved ones, and of course friends.

So until next year, I am wishing you all health, safety, and happiness.

Happy Painting Everyone.

Ending the Year with David Dunlop

As you know I have been enjoying David Dunlop's latest dvd's
Landscape Through Time Season 2.  He is an amazing artist and wonderful
teacher.  Studying Turner via David, there was so much that I didn't know
about Turner and I have a new found appreciation for his work.

This again is a watercolor, this time on 140lb. cold press Bockingford.
primed with acrylic varnish before applying the paint, leaving the
surface erasable.  Don't care for the yupo paper a little too slick for
my liking.

Next I will continue probably the same scene in oil, keeping up with both
mediums.  Then  it is on to Winslow Homer and studying waves.

Happy Painting Everyone.

Still Experimenting.

Watercolor study on watercolor paper treated
with acrylic varnish, to give it the erasable paper.
Unfortunately while removing the tape, I tore the paper.
No worries, I will do over.
Practice on Yupo paper. all I can say , this is going to be a
long  journey , in learning how to paint on this paper.

JMW Turner via David Dunlop

5x7 watercolor hot press
Studying Turner

Have had the good fortune to receive my Christmas gift early this year.
My children gave me the wonderful gift of  David Dunlop's Landscape
Through Time Season 2.  David goes back  to the days of JMW Turner,
Sargent, Whistler and Guardi in Venice, also the Hudson River painters and
there methods of painting in watercolor and oil.

I have learned about watercolor paper and how they made it erasable  their method was
bathing the paper in glue and then hanging it to dry.  David also teaches , simply by coating
the hot press watercolor paper with Acrylic varnish and several methods can achieve the same
erasable affect.  Also simply purchasing Yupo paper I was told does the same.

While still working and studying these new techniques I look forward to the next
step and apply the similar approach to my oil painting.

With the arrival of cold weather plein air painting will be something to do on nicer days,
but I have the winter months to study and create in my studio.
So Happy Painting dear bloggers.
