Peek a Boo

Peek a Boo:  6x8 still life acrylic

My first attempt at a still life from September.  I did the 30 day Stradaeaseasel challenge. Since then I've done my usual and favorite theme of atmospheric landscape.  Yesterday, went out looking for new props , went to Trader Joe's a purchased mandarin oranges, and to wal mart for artificial flowers and a white milk vase. These are just a few of the paintings I did in September.  I do love painting a still life and also find it very challenging.  So now here we are the last day of February there is a chill in the air, perfect to be home painting in the studio.  All of the painting below are posted on my etsy shop. Originalpaintingsbyjoansart.  Happing painting everyone.

Going Wild

                                                    Going Wild with color
                                                            8x10 acrylic

Went to Short Beach with friends.  I started this 8x10 on location and finished it at home.  I am always surprised when using acrylic paint, never know what to expect.
Stony Brook plein air
6x8 Acrylic

This wasn’t completed, not sure I will continue or just start another painting.  Once again the brilliance of acrylic paint and  my mood, it’s basically using primary colors.  I think it is time for me to do some still life paintings in between landscapes.  Once again it is a rainy day on Long Island.  Perfect to set up a still life using some of my purchases from the thrift store or maybe some fruit or veggies.  Need more coffee before I begin my day.  Happy Painting everyone.

Recent Oil Paintings

The River
oil on canvas

Short Beach Marsh

Here we are in mid February, today is the first day we are seeing the sun shine on Long Island.  The temps aren't that bad, 40's, tolerable enough to paint outdoors.  First stop is the Mills Pond House to drop of two of my painting that were juried into their show Inspirations in Blue.

It was great switching back to oils after starting the year painting in watercolors.  Maybe you all feel the same way, change is good, it keeps the creative juices flowing.  Today , thinking about acrylic painting for the plein air, less messy and easy to transport without getting paint all over the car.

My biggest concern is , maybe it's time to challenge myself by painting still life or people.  It may be time to get my head out of the clouds, lol.  It's just that mother nature puts on such a wonderful display in the clouds, who am I kidding it's all a challenge.

It is time to start my day, happy painting everyone.

Sayville Marsh

                                                      Sayville Marsh
                                                         8x10 oil on canvas

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted.  It’s another rainy day on Long Island and once again home bound.  Longing for the sunny days to go out and paint.  Yesterday I painted this marsh painting from a photo taken last week.  Since the beginning of the year I been painting in w/c and acrylic, yesterday was the first time my oils were used.
Posted this painting in my etsy shop last night and this morning realized it is too wet to mail out if someone wants it, now fingers crossed no one wants it lol. While having my morning coffee a revelation  occurred, maybe acrylic paintings for the etsy shop would be better. They are easier to ship.
Well enough, I am procrastinating and do have a busy day ahead.  Happy Painting everyone.
